Gond Katira or Tragacanth is a natural herb found in the dry grass of several Middle Eastern legumes of the Astragalus genus, including A.adscendens, A. gummifer, A. brachycalyx,] and A.D. Tragacantha. Some of these species are known to associate under the common names "goat thorns" and "locoweed". Gum is sometimes called Shiraz gum, shiraz, gum elect or gum dragon.


The name is derived from the Greek words tragos (meaning "goat") and akantha ("thorns"). Iran is the main producer of this joke.


Basic Facts about Gond Katira


Gum tragacanth is a viscous compound, odorless, tasteless, water-soluble polysaccharides obtained from salts extracted from the plant's root and dried. Gum penetrates the tree through twisted ribbons or flakes that can be powdered. It absorbs water to form a gel, which can be regenerated and pasted.



Larger fractions are known as tragacanthin, which is more soluble as mucilaginous colilid, and chemical-related bassorin, which is more soluble but swells in water to form a gel. 


Gond Katira is used in the use of vegetable skin as a smooth and warm compound, and is sometimes used as a stabilizer for fabrics. 


Gum has historically been used as an herbal remedy for conditions such as coughs and diarrhea. Powders that use tragacanth as a base were sometimes called diatragacanth.


Like mucilage or paste, it has been used for the treatment of burns. It is used in the manufacture of medicines and food as an emulsifier, thickener, stabilizer, and texturant additive (E number E413). It is a traditional compound used in dye pastels for artists,  as it does not adhere in the same way that other gums (such as gum arabic) do when they are dry. 


Some uses of Gond Katira


Gond Katira is also used to make adhesives used in colorful sugars to make life-giving flowers on the strings used to decorate cakes, which dry the air and explode and can take on colors. 


Gond Katira enables users to find a positive, critical outcome in their work. Traditionally it has been used as an adhesive in a cigar wrapping procedure used to protect the cap or "flag" leaf on the cigar-shaped body.


In the Middle East, as well as in Turkey in particular, Gond Katira is used in paperbirds to make floats the size and shape of pigs, just as carrageenan is used in the West.


Gum tragacanth is also used in incense as an obligation to hold all the powdered herbs together. Its water solubility is well suited for easy operation and even distribution, and it is one of the strongest gum-holding gums in formation. Only half is needed, compared to arumic gum or something similar.

It is common in Indian cuisine as "Gond Kateera" (and spelled as "Gond Katira"). "Gond" means "glue" or "medicine" in Hindi, so that could mean "Kateera medicine liquid". The typical dish we use is a special sundam of Jammu and Kashmir cuisine.
